Case Study: Safely Removing Syria's Chemical Weapons

When the UN Security Council mandated the removal and destruction of Syria’s chemical weapons stockpile, immediate action was required.

With a target date looming less than a month away, our team rallied to meet the challenge of ensuring a safe method of transport.

135 linings, approximately 68,000 square feet in total area, were needed for the tanks built to contain the arsenal. According to General Manager Brian Venable, "The scope of work entailed blasting each tank with garnet blast media, vacuuming each, and then spraying on a Vinyl Ester material FRP with plural component pumps."

Working around the clock, the team completed their task 48 hours ahead of its mission critical deadline.

Since our inlet brow was coated by Universal Blastco, the unit set an all-time consecutive day run record (237 days) which put the coating system to the ultimate test and it easily passed. Now with the coatings in place on all three of our absorber inlets we no longer expect to spend large amounts of time or resources in making repairs.
