PROJECT DETAILS

  • INDUSTRY: Energy
  • LOCATION: South Carolina
  • YEAR: 2023
  • FOR MORE INFORMATION: Reference job S23-004

These three demineralization tanks’ interior rubber linings had well exceeded their lifespan. During inspection, we found that all 3 linings had numerous failures including blistering, failed seams and extremely saturated rubber with the current process it was holding. We worked with the customer to prepare to reline these tanks during their next outage. These tanks were 6’ tall (and 10 feet at the highest point of the domed ceiling) by 6’ in diameter.

REPLACING THE RUBBER LINING:

  • Stripped off existing rubber lining mechanically with chipping guns, and then grinded out small remaining portions of bonding layer
  • Abrasive blasted all surfaces to SSPC-SP 10 cleanliness standard
  • Blew down, cleaned up and prepared for rubber application
  • Primed all steel surfaces
  • Cut rubber to fit all surfaces
  • Applied 1/4” Blair VE821BNS rubber
  • Steam curred the rubber
  • Spark tested
