Trenches and Sumps
Sump & Trench Repairs for Heavy Industrial Facilities
Sumps, trenches, and U-drains in heavy industrial environments are constantly exposed to chemicals, abrasion, and moisture. Once concrete is left unprotected, deterioration accelerates. This leads to structural failures, leaks, and increased safety and environmental risk.
Universal Blastco specializes in evaluating, repairing, and lining degraded sumps and trench systems to restore integrity and extend service life.
Our Trench/Sump Repair Evaluation Process
Every project begins with a thorough assessment to understand the condition and constraints of the system. Our team evaluates:
- Existing concrete condition and level of degradation
- Structural integrity of sumps, trenches, and ledge angles
- Chemical exposure and operating conditions
- Drainage, grading, and flow challenges
- Budget considerations, outage windows, and schedule constraints
From there, we determine the best-fit repair and lining solution based on exposure, condition, budget, and outage requirements.
Trench/Sump Lining System Options
There is no one-size-fits-all solution for sump and trench repairs. Because Universal Blastco installs all major industrial lining systems, we are able to recommend the most appropriate option for each individual application.
Available systems include:
- Polymer concrete systems
- Concrete Protective Liners (polypropylene-reinforced sheets with mechanical anchors)
- High-performance resin-based lining systems
- Fiberglass Reinforced Polymer (FRP) linings
- Prefabricated “drop-in-place” FRP liners
- Tank tile lining systems
Our recommendations are driven by performance requirements, not product limitations.
Integrated Repair Scopes for Trench/Sump Linings
In many cases, lining installation alone is not enough. By addressing both the root cause and the protective system, we deliver long-term solutions instead of temporary fixes. Our repair scopes often include:
- Grading and slope correction to improve drainage
- Reinstalling or replacing ledge angles
- Rebuilding severely degraded areas
- Repairs to address underlying structural deficiencies
In addition to repairing the u-drain, trench and/or sump, we can take a complete repair approach addressing all issues within the containment area including but limited to:
- Tank and chime coatings
- Stabilizing active cracks
- Pump pad refurbishment
- Floor to wall systems joints
Timing & Execution
Universal Blastco crews are experienced in executing sump and trench repairs during planned outages using fast-curing materials, extended work shifts, and around-the-clock schedules when required. When outages are not available, we also perform:
- Emergency repairs
- Phased repairs
- Temporary dam installations
- Work in active facilities while operations remain online
Our goal is to minimize disruption while delivering durable, high-quality results.
Why Universal Blastco
With in-house capabilities across coatings, linings, fiberglass, masonry, and concrete repair, we provides integrated solutions backed by real field experience in heavy industrial environments.
When concrete fails, we don’t just patch it… we engineer a solution that lasts.
Sump Pit, Trench & U-Drain Projects:

Prefabricated Structural FRP Liner in Sump
When we saw how saturated this concrete was, we knew that a coating was not going to be an option to restore this sump.

Sump Pit Reline with Prefabricated FRP Panels
A prefabricated fiberglass liner was installed into a concrete sump pit where the existing FRP liner was unable to be repaired due to chemical permeation.

U-Drain CPL Repair
The plastic liner in this u-drain had collapsed due to improper installation. We completely repaired the liner to properly protect against the corrosive acids that

Scrubber Area Acid Lining
This metal refining facility was in need of a strong floor coating in their scrubber containment area to protect against hydrofluoric acid.
